The series of prints titled BED SERIES explores the unconscious state of the body during sleep. Much like the unique prints on our finger tips, our bodies twist and tumble the sheets during slumber leaving evidence to the state of our psyche when we sleep. I want to explore the link between our bodies and our minds during the stages of sleep and what the aftermath of this time leaves behind. Can these sheets reveal the joy, fear, separation we experience? Or is it just a place for us to lay down? The work encompasses a mixture of techniques which include photography, water colour drawings on frosted Mylar and digital printing. These techniques allow me to access the emotional state left behind though examining the physical state of the sheets on the bed while visually representing a dream state in the water colour technique. I initially photographed beds I slept in while traveling as a tour leader and on my personal travels overseas. Then I asked the public to send me photos of their own unmade beds through social media outlets. I am also exploring a variety of settings including couch beds and cribs while seeing what place a narrative holds for this series. My works asks the question about what we leave behind- be it emotionally or physically. My work is personal and is my art therapy. The images I create become a visual diary, so welcome to my sessions.
